alumna (alum-na) - female graduate singular

alumnae (alum-knee) - female graduate plural

bid day - the day following recruitment when each sorority extends invitations (bids) to PNMs

CAB- Chapter Advisory Board - alumnae who volunteer their time to work and mentor the chapter and provide leadership and continuity

CMD- Chapter Membership Director - an alumna volunteer for National Kappa Delta that mentors and guides several active chapters during recruitment

CSM/CS- Chapter Services Manager/Chapter Specialist - an employee and alumna of National Kappa Delta that mentors and guides several active chapters; this is usually the chapter’s first national contact

initiation - a ceremony, when a new member becomes a member of the sorority; only initiated members may participate in this ceremony

national - the headquarters of the national office of the sorority located in Memphis, TN

NPC- National Panhellenic Association - Panhellenic- the governing body of the women’s sororities; there are 26 groups that are members of NPC

New Member (formerly known as a Pledge) - an individual who accepts a bid for a sorority; the new member period or pledge period is when a woman receives education about the sorority prior to becoming a member

PNM - Potential New Member (formerly known as a rushee)- women that are interested in joining the sorority

recruitment (formerly known as rush) - a group of parties or events hosted by each sorority, guided by NPC rules, to recruit new members
