Because Every Child Deserves A Happy Childhood.
Happy childhoods don’t just happen on their own; it takes parents, grandparents, teachers, daycare providers and many others who are dedicated to creating a safe and loving environment for their children. Each year there are over 2.9 million reports of child abuse in the United States.
While Kappa Deltas raise awareness and funds for the prevention of child abuse all year, we take extra time in April, Child Abuse Prevention Month, to share ways to make a difference in a child’s life.
From Prevent Child Abuse America, here are a few simple ways you can help prevent child abuse.
Be a role model. Children watch our every move and listen to our conversations, even when you think they aren’t paying attention.
Help a friend, neighbor or relative. Being a parent isn’t easy. Offer a helping hand to take care of the children, so the parent(s) can rest or spend time together.
Help yourself. When the big and little problems of your everyday life pile up to the point you feel overwhelmed and out of control – take time out. Don’t take it out on a child.
Volunteer at a local child abuse prevention program. For information about volunteer opportunities, call 1.800.CHILDREN or visit preventchildabuse.org to locate your local Prevent Child Abuse America chapter.
Report suspected abuse or neglect. If you have reason to believe a child has been or may be harmed, call your local department of children and family services or your local police department.
