Kappa Delta Sorority Responds to Cultural Insensitivity of Members of Its Sigma Upsilon Chapter

Heidi Roy, Director of Communications

National and local leaders of Kappa Delta Sorority were recently made aware of an inappropriate event theme that perpetuated insensitivity toward the homeless community. Kappa Delta does not condone these actions or any language that demeans an individual or group. We continue to investigate and will respond accordingly.

Kappa Delta Sorority recognizes that a swift and comprehensive response is necessary. We will work with chapter officers, chapter advisors and leaders in the community who serve the homeless population to develop educational programming and provide community service opportunities for the chapter.

Kappa Delta expects its members to live the values espoused by the national organization and holds its chapters accountable for actions that do not align with its national standards. Kappa Delta’s resolution on human dignity, adopted at the 1987 National Convention, states: “Kappa Delta Sorority recognizes the respect and dignity that all men and women should be accorded and therefore disassociates itself from any activity or event that encourages or permits actions that may be construed as demeaning to any individual.”
