Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act
Kappa Delta is proud to be working with the other national fraternities and sororities to encourage Congress to pass legislation to facilitate tax-deductible contributions for chapter housing infrastructure improvement. This year’s effort has been streamlined and coordinated by the Capital Fraternal Caucus. The time is now to show Members of Congress that the Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act is worthy of their support!
The Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act (CHIA) is proposed legislation that would make a simple change in the tax code. This change would go a long way in improving the condition and the safety of fraternity and sorority student housing facilities. Specifically, the bill would allow tax-deductible charitable contributions made to fraternity and sorority educational foundations to be used for infrastructure improvements and the installation of fire detection and prevention systems in local not-for-profit student housing.
We are asking all collegians and alumnae members to write Congress in support of the Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act (H.R. 642/S.638). In less than three minutes you can send an electronic letter to your Senators and Representative, adding your voice to the thousands of other fraternity and sorority members reaching out to Members of Congress.
Here‘s all you have to do to participate in the campaign:
1. Log onto the Fraternal Caucus Web site. Locate the “Get Involved” tab at the top of the page and click on “Register with CFC.” It will take about two minutes for you to provide the campaign with some basic information Greek leaders can use later in our grassroots program to target certain demographic groups for additional contacts.
2. After registering, go to the Tab marked Legislation and click on “Write your Legislators.” The Web site provides sample templates to complete your letter.
3. Simply complete all the boxes and steps from there to automatically send an e-mail communication to both your Senators and Member of Congress. If you have additional connections to other members of Congress or Senators, you can write them as well.
The Greek world is closely tracking the number of letters sent by members of each organization and we need Kappa Delta to be well represented in this campaign. Can you please take the time to voice your support of this important legislation?
Thank you in advance for your support and participation in this important grassroots effort!
