Adding ‘Self-Care’ to Your To-Do List

post-default

Whether you’re a busy college woman, a full-time mom, or you’re spending your days in the office, it can be tempting to prioritize everyone and everything over your own needs. There’s always so much to do and never enough time in the day. However, if you are going to live confidently and inspire action in those around you, it is important you take care of yourself first. Below are a few ways you can prioritize self-care!

Commit to a workout schedule. Whether you are training for a half-marathon or you haven’t run a mile since high school, exercising a couple times a week has been proven to have positive effects on your overall mental health. Physical activity is both a stress-reliever and a confidence-booster, so make time for the gym or head to the park for a power walk. It is in your best interest!

Make time for your favorite stress-reliever. Do you enjoy journaling, reading a book, practicing yoga or binge-watching Gilmore Girls? Maybe you prefer an adult coloring book! We can all get busy and feel stressed, so it is important to pencil in time for whatever relaxes you.

Call a friend.  Whether it is your mom, a best friend from high school or a sister in your new-member class, spend time each week on the phone with someone who knows you best. Catching up or venting about what is happening in your life can boost your happiness and energy and allow you to dig back into whatever you’re focused on that week.

Take a time-out. Don’t check your email for 24 hours, or consider taking a personal day every couple of months. If you’re caught up on your to-do list or something can wait a day, it is OK to take time to recharge.

Ask for help when you need it. Are you struggling to make a decision related to your position, or do you doubt your abilities on a project? Ask for help! Talk to one of your peers, coworkers or a mentor. They can offer you advice, remind you that you’re not alone, and encourage you to have the confidence to accomplish anything you set out to do.

While you might feel guilty making time for yourself, self-care is a critical component to success. You can give more of yourself to others when you have filled your own cup! Use these tips to ensure you stay confident, refreshed and ready to contribute your talents to the world around you.
